What's one of your favorite trips on the cargo bike?

Governor's Island! I can use my cargo bike to get us all to the ferry, and load it up with the kids' scooters and bikes as well. Once we're on the island, they have freedom to move around at their own pace, and we're all relaxed when we're not worrying about cars — or talking over them.

How has family cargo biking changed your life?

It's made everything in the 1–3 mile range from our apartment more accessible. A lot of those trips are too far to walk with 2 kids, and not necessarily fast by public transportation. The cargo bike makes those trips much easier. When I was pregnant with my second kid, I relied on the cargo bike for basically all of my transportation — I couldn't walk more than 10 minutes without extreme pain, but cycling was fine.

What would make biking even better in Brooklyn?

Replace the paint infrastructure — the beige daylighted corners, for example — with concrete. Concrete would provide physical protection, and be much clearer to both drivers and cyclists.
